Outlook locks up when I reply to a message

I have Outlook 2003 on a Dell Inspiron 2650, running Win
XP. All of a sudden, Outlook started locking up when I
try to reply to a message. It usually get's stuck, while
displaying "Starting Microsoft Word as you email editor"
and then it just locks. Everything else in Outlook seems
to work fine. Any help would be greatly appreciated
 
If you select Tools | Options | Mail Format and turn off Word as your
e-mail, what happens after restarting? Does Outlook still behave the same
way? You may need to try a Detect and Repair from the Help menu.
