Outlook locks after being open a few minutes

In just the last couple days, Outlook has begun being non-responsive
after a few minutes. When left alone for a few minutes, I can click on
any part of the window (doesn't matter what part of Outlook is open),
and the hour glass just keeps turning. The title line at the top
displays (Not Responding). I can close Outlook, followed by a question
about sending info to Microsoft. I can then immediately re-open
Outlook and it works fine for another few minutes.
