Outlook Freezes when adding New Contact

Since the last Microsoft auto-Update (I think - it's been the last 2
weeks anyway), my Outlook freezes when I click Save & Close after
entering a new contact. It doesn't matter whether I do it from right
clicking the gray button next to an address or from opening my address
book and doing it through that menu sequence. Anybody know what I
should do?
Thanks! Magic

How have you determined that an update caused this behavior? What Outlook
version and information store are you using?

I have Office Outlook 2003 (11.8118.8107) SP2 running on Windows XP Professional. I'm not sure what an information store is - sorry. I have not attributed it to the auto-update for sure (I wouldn't know how), it just seems like that's when it started. Adding contacts is the only thing that causes the freeze. Thanks, M

Tried any of the routine procedures such as repairing your PST file or
creating a new profile?

I just solved this problem on a PC today. Apparently Outlook links its phone numbers for its contacts with the windows telephony system. If you have a UBS modem (or malfunctioning modem) then Outlook will freeze when you save and close the contact, but only if you've put in (or edited) any of the phone number fields.
The problem is solved by removing the USB (or malfunctioning) modem, including in control panel modems, and installing a serial (or good working) modem. I hope this helps future readers.

Finally found a solution. It was caused by corrupt dialing rules.

Close all application then from control panel, double click phone and modem options.
Click on New to create new dialing rule, enter location name, select the country you are in and type in your area code, left the rest blank.

When you are finish, set the new entry as default then delete the old one.

Start outlook and try to create new contact. Good luck.
