Outlook freezes intermittently

While reading or composing a message, Outlook seem to freeze for about 1/2
minute when a new email message arrives. Used Exmon to monitor the client's
activity and CPU usage is normally below 20%. No search tool installed on
the desktop. The items in the Inbox is below 100. The problem started a few
days ago. Any idea on how I can identify the problem?

Version of Outlook?
Type of mail account?

Outlook version is 2003 (11.6359). It's Microsoft Exchange Server account
and we're running Exchange 2003 Enterprise edition on our servers.
 
Do you have a virus scanner that integrates with Outlook? Disable this
integration and try again.
