Outlook Express

I'm sending this post on my laptop. I upgraded my desktop to XP Home from
Win '98 recently, and I've had few problems. I have been able to receive
e-mail messages fine with Outlook Express; but today I tried to SEND an
e-mail (I realized that I hadn't sent any e-mails yet on the upgraded XP-I
had been only sending e-mails on the laptop) and as I clicked on the send
button, I got a message from XP saying "something" happened and it would
have to close the program. It prompted me to send an error message to
Microsoft, which I did. Then it closed the program. I've tried about ten
more times to send a message, and the same thing happend each time. (With XP
closing the program). Before the upgrade to XP, I had upgraded Outlook
Express to Version 6.0 through Windows Upgrade, online. I can't delete
Outlook Express -- there's no entry for it in Control Panel's Add/Delete
Programs. I could reload it from the XP install disk, but wouldn't it have
to be deleted first?
It's so odd that I can receive e-mail fine, but not send. Something is
interfering with Outlook Express's send function, causing the whole program
to quit. What could it be?
Thanks for any assistance.
