msn messenger is loading up but is creating an error. I would go ahead and
unistall it. run your outlood express. Then after a couple of days evaluate
to see if you "really" need the msn messenger..... (i use outlook express
and do not have messenger installed - it works fine for me)

thanks but i uninstalled msn messenger sometime ago ionly have windows
messenger installed

Go to Add or Remove Programs. Click Add/Remove Windows Components.
Uncheck Outlook Express. Click Next all the way out and reboot. On Reboot,
go back and put the checkmark back next to Outlook Express and click Next.
You may need the XP CD. Reboot.

Go to Windows Update and click on Custom. Download and install all the
Optional Software Updates including the High Priority Updates and reboot.

Now try Outlook Express.

You might wish to also clean out the Windows Registry with a Registry
Cleaner like TuneUp Utilities 2006 from here:
http://www.tune-up.com/
