You could try asking in an OE ng as this is an OL ng. They are entirely
different apps,

I have been searching sites most of the day and this is the first glimmer of
hope I have that it can be done. I have worked most of yesterday with
professionals at a respected computer company (local) and each tech I spoke
with gave me a different direction and none of them worked. I do have all
the dbx files on a cd but don't know what to do with them. Import did not
work. What I *need* is some help with an answer that works. Care to guide
me? I was not able to locate any article on the website you directed me to
that covered moving the files from one computer to another. I appreciate any
guidance. Thanks

Copy the entire folder of .dbx files to your hard drive. Make sure that
folders.dbx is one of them. Open the folder. Select all the .dbx files
and right click/Properties/untick the Read Only box. Now try importing them.

Was folders.dbx in the folder you got from the old computer?

yes, it is there.

Weird. Should work. Maybe if you delete the copy and make a new one from
the old computer, it will work. As far as I can tell, you're doing it
correctly. Are any of the dbx files really large? Do inbox.dbx,
sentitems.dbx or any other of the default .dbx files have any messages
in them? Is OE updated on the new computer?

just send the current one from desktop to trash and start over? should I
recopy the files from old computer and copy them on several cds and not
import all at once? some of the files are large. When I do the import it is
from store directory, not main identity right?

Yes, the sent items is rather large, there are items in the inbox, but I
could re-email them to myself, I have two email addresses, so I could do that
pretty easily.

I am not a techie, so I really appreciate you taking the time to try to help
me. Guess you are in the northeast somewhere. I have a daughter in Ashland
Or, rest of family in St Louis.

Import them from the Main Identity.

How large?

Create new folders under Local Folders, say My Inbox and My Sent Items
on the old computer. Move all the messages from Inbox and Sent Items to
the newly created folders. What you want is the Main Identity folder.
You can move it to the new computer using a CD, flash drive or, if you
have broadband and both computers are on line, and if you have AIM, you
can send the main identity folder via AIM. AIM calls folders "directories".

Glad to help. I live in Spain, although I am from the USA, California.
