When I try to reply to an email I get the error message: "There was an error
opening this message. An error has occured". I've looked around and believe
this is related to the Address Book, but cannot find a solution. What do I
do?

You might get an answer here (and I'm sorry that I can't help you since
I don't use OE), but the OE experts are in one of the OE newsgroups.

Anyone else experiencing this problem, try uninstalling Security Update for
Windows XP-KB911567 via Add/Remove Programs & reboot.

I just got through doing this exact operation for a client's computer
and it worked like a charm.
Microsoft having some issues I guess????

3 days ago... Outlook Express worked perfectly.
Now, I am receiving mail, but get this same error message...
tried going to uninstall via add/remove programs but don't even see that
(Windows XP-KB911567).
I have automatic updates (which may have created the problem).
Also have tried other "fixes" found on internet from renaming address book
to uninstalling/ reinstalling outlook express.
I can see the emails in the preview pane, but can't open them. Can't create
a new mail message. Also can't open address book (but am not too concerned
there since I don't store addresses linked to this account.)
HELP!!

Yeah, but what's causing it and how can we fix it? I'm ok with uninstalling
911567, but then I have to turn auto updates off to keep it uinstalled. Or
am I missing some way to permenantly skip a single update?

OK, some progress...I uninstalled the Windows update 911567 and it works
perfectly again. Now I am in same boat as hrddrv...
What is causing it and how can we fix it? Do we have to turn auto updates
off to keep it uinstalled. Or are we missing some way to permanantly skip a
single update? More importantly, is Microsoft going to fix whatever was
causing the problem???

Had this same problem and removing KB911567 has sorted it, so thanks very
much. Is there any way that windows update can skip this single update?

Don't worry Ive managed to skip that single update with Windows Update, so
I'm all sorted.
Thanks

How did you skip that update?-- I uninstalled it (and it fixed the issue)
then with the latest update it put it back on again...don't want to do that
everyday!!

Yesterday, there was a post from MVP Mow Green, which gave instructions for
installing an alternative update of KB911567. Tried it, but it didn't work.
Guess that explains why the post disappeared. Fortunately, was able to
uninstall that update and Outlook Express is back to normal (even got the
original address book back). So I've turned off auto update and have it only
tell me when updates are available.

I solved it for my two trouble PC's allowing me to continue receiving
updates. Based on a post from the Outlook Express newsgroup:

- Exported my Address Book to a csv file.
- Moved the original WAB file to a different folder (to keep as backup).
- Reinstalled the 911567 update.
- Ran Outlook Express, which created a new WAB file.
- Imported the csv file into Address Book.

This worked for both systems. If you have folders or groups in your Address
Book, there may be additional steps to maintain the same organization. Hope
this helps.
