outlook express spell check

Guest

I recently purchased a new computer and downloaded my old "stuff" (98 SE)
into the new computer (Win. XP HE). After one day of sweet running the spell
check shut down in Outlook Express 6.0 and the icons on the tool bar above
with cut, paste, copy, etc. all went grey. When I am composing a message I
cannot use these items. When I open the Outlook Express the print icon is
grey. What is up with all of this? I removed Outlook, re-installled Works 8
and re-installed outlook, NO LUCK, any suggestions?

OE 6 does not come with it's own spell check. You need Word or an MS
Office program or you can download a free spell check at one of these
sites.

http://www.geocities.com/vampirefo/

http://www.megspace.com/computers/tinyspell/ (Checks the spelling as
you type).

Spell Checking does not work in OE:

Or:

And: An error occurred while the spelling was being checked or: Spell
Check was halted:

What is your old stuff (Win98SE)? That is an operating system. The spell
checker in OE depends on Works or Word. If per chance you installed Office
'97:

Manual Edit:

Go to Start/Run/EXPAND X:\i386\CSAPI3T1.DL_ C:\CSAPI3T1.DLL (Where X is your
CD-Rom drive letter). And then copy it to: Program Files\Common
Files\Microsoft Shared\Proof

Or download the file here: Replace the Csapi3t1.dll file
http://www.tech-pro.co.uk/howto_010.html

An error occurred while the spelling was being checked.
http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;EN-US;q224176

Checkpoint: Go to Start/Run/Regedit and navigate to this key:

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Shared Tools

In the right pane where it reads: SharedFilesDir, verify that it reads:
C:\Program Files\Common Files\Microsoft Shared under Data.

Note that Outlook and OE fight for default. Verify your preference, within
the proper settings.
