Outlook Express not in Default Mail in IE 6

I cannot select Outlook Express as the default Mail in IE
6 or through Outlook Express. It is not on the list. When
I try and set it in Outlook Express it seems to do
something but does not change IE setting. It worked for
setting Newsgroups to Outlook Express but not mail. Is
there a registry entry?

Thanks

I believe the HKLM\SOFTWARE\Clients\Mail is the regkey entry for setting a
default mail client in IE. Try editing 'defalt' value to Outlook Express.
If IE/OE is installed correctly there should be "Outlook Express" regkey.

From http://www.fjsmjs.com/OE/defaultl.htm

Go to Start | Run and type this command, with the double quotes and spaces:

"C:\Program Files\Outlook Express\msimn.exe" /reg

and then make sure that OE is selected as the default mail program in both
IE and OE.

If that isn't enough, see this article:
"Send To" and E-mail Links Do Not Work Using Outlook Express as Default:

You might also want to try this:

To set Outlook 98, 2000 or 2002(XP) as the default mail client,- Go to
Start, Run - Type in the following with quotation marks and press OK
"C:\program files\microsoft office\office\outlook.exe" /checkclient
