Every time after I post a message to a newsgroup,
hundreds of spam emails will come in. I am using Windows
XP Outlook Express, is there a way (e.g. outlook express
config) that I can modify my email address as appears in
the newsgroups, while not affecting my regular emails?

Thanks

I notice on this posting you did not use your own email address. Good.

However from previous postings, you probably used your email. These
spams originate from when the spammers got your email ... from postings,
or other ways. Your influx of spam is only coincidently related to
specific newgroups postings.

Gettings spam is a way of life on the Internet these days.

Get yourself good spam protection software (by your ISP Mail server
provvider or on your own PC).

Once you post with a valid email address, that address is harvested and will
continue to receive spam email until the spammer is either shut down, or
quits sending out the spam emails. Do not ever post a message on a public
forum with your real email address in either the email setup to the body of
the email. munge the email address by adding an obvious prefix or suffix to
the username or DNS.
Examples:
(e-mail address removed)
(e-mail address removed)
with a message in the body of the post telling how to make the email address
valid.

The thing is that I do not even know how to modify my
email address as a newsgroup poster. I am using XP and
Outlook Express. How can I change that please?

Thanks

I'm sure that you realise that both of your two previous postings on
this topic were not done with Outlook Express even though you say you
use Outlook Express?

I can tell this by looking at the headers. In particular:

X-Newsreader: Microsoft CDO for Windows 2000

which says you are using the web interface provided by Microsoft.

Advice on this email issue is at
http://support.microsoft.com/newsgroups/default.aspx?ln=en-gb

From links on this page, read about newsgroup access. In particular,
see
http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=/directory/worldwide/en-gb/newsout.asp
for how to configure OE Express for newsgroup. It will ask you to
specfy an email address. You have to say something. Use a fake one.

Once setup, to change it, change the settings for that "account".

Read more about OE in it's "Help".
