Dear All,

I would like to ask Outlook Express experts out there about a certain
problem I am having with my Outlook Express.

1) I am using Windows 2000 pro + Win XP

2) I am using Outlook Express for my email client

I have a particular problem where my outlook express will suddently not be
able to receive or send emails. It will complain some unknown socket error.

To solve this problem, I will delete the inbox.dbx and launch outlook
express to let it re create a new inbox.dbx file. This seems to solve this
problem.

1 thing I noticed is that the inbox.dbx is always about 2gig in size. Could
this be the problem? Does the inbox.dbx file grow until a certain size where
this problem will occur?

Can this problem be recreated at will by someone naughty? If it can be
recreated, can some one please give me the steps I should take to re create
this exact problem? Or is this some random problem?

Hope to hear from you soon.

Leo

If those groups aren't carried on the news server that's carrying this group
try using msnews.microsoft.com (MS's public news server that's the source
for all the microsoft.public newsgroups). The links under the newsgroup
references are for use with MS's web newsreader (not exactly the best way to
post but it works for some people)

Generally, you will find better expertise in the appropriate group. But,
yes, your Inbox size is to large. It looks like you are storing all of your
email messages for several years there. You are risking corruption of the
data, or its loss. Never use the five default folders for storage; always
create new folders and move message to them for archival storage. The
default folders, Inbox.dbx, Outbox.dbx, Sent Items.dbx, Deleted Items.dbx,
and Drafts.dbx are subject to corruption, and loss of messages. Treat them
as temporary storage and you will be much better off.
