outlook EXPRESS - back up messages.How?

nb. outlook express not outlook
how can i save /back up all my received & sent emails currently stored in
individual folders within 'inbox' & 'sent'.
i can only see a facility to export tthem to outlook - whichi dont use.
surely there must be a way of saving them directly?
