Hi there to all

I have been using OE6 for quite some time and I have a question that has been bothering me forever..
Does OE6 HAVE to be opened in order for you to hear an email alert that you have new mail? This is the simplest of a question but it's driving me crazy!
If OE6 has to be open for you to hear it, why hasn't MS come up with a way to let you know you have mail besides opening the program to check
I've had Email notifiers before that I've downloaded off the internet, but I wasn't very happy with them
Also if anyone can suggest a really great email notifier that can supplement OE6, I'd be mighty greatful
Thanks

Unless OE is running there is no way it can notify you of new mail. Just
start OE and keep it minimized.

Yes, OE has to be open in order to know that mail has arrived.

In order for any program to know if new mail, this program has to connect to
the mail server and check. My speculation of MS's philosophy is that if
you're going to connect to the mail server to check for new mail, you might
just as well have your mail program download it at the same.

No. Your E-mail program has to be open. Outlook Express is only
one possible choice of E-mail programs.
