Outlook Express 6.0 Mailbox Problems

OE opens with Inbox, when I go to Deleted Mail, inbox
won't remain open long enought so that I can select it.

All mailboxes other than Inbox are overflowing because of
this.

IE 6.0 SP1 version number differs from the version of OE.

Some Security updates refuse to install, a message says
that IE6 with SP1 is required to install. If I try to
install updates for IE 6 for Windows XP, I get the same
message and the updates refuses to install.

I desperately need help, all suggestions will be
appreciated.

Is a Hotmail or MSN account your default mail account in OE? What happens
if you configure OE /not/ to open to Inbox?

Don't use Inbox or Sent Items to archive messages. Move them to local
folders created for this purpose.

Disable Background Compacting and frequently perform a manual compact of all
OE folders while "working offline". More at
http://insideoe.tomsterdam.com/files/maintain.htm.

Your anti-virus application's email scanning feature can also cause such
corruption. Disable it. It provides no additional protection.

Are you using Windows Update or a download page for the update(s)?

Copy/paste the following into an IE Addressbar, click on GO, then copy/paste
the results into your reply:
