Outlook Excel Attachments

When I open an Excel attachment, Excel opens but the file does not. There
when I close Excel, I get this error message;

"System cannot find the file specified".

This only happens with Excel files. I am running Outlook 2003 Standard on XP
Pro 2. Thanks.

I followed the instructions to the letter and deleted the files that were in
that temp folder but it still didn't solve the issue. I closed Outlook and
launched it again and tried to open an attachment. I could see the copy being
created in the temp folder but the file would not open. Same error when I
closed Excel and the file in the temp folder disappeared after closing Excel.

Yes that works but I'm having this problem with an employee. Its on her
system and she rather just open the attachment directly.

I was simply trying to determine that opening an Excel attachment worked
outside of Outlook which means the issue is within Outlook itself.
Are you using any mail compression software by chance?

You can also try this to see if it helps:

In Excel, select Tools > Options > General

Uncheck the option to "Ignore Other Applications."

Close Excel.

Before I try it I found out something interesting. When I saved the
attachment to the desktop and double clicked the file, only Excel opened, not
the file. Then I went through the File, Open way to open the file and it
opened that way. Next I emailed the file to my computer and was able to open
the file both ways, in Outlook and saving it and then double clicking on it.
What do you think?
