Outlook: error when starting (extend.dat)

When I start Outlook I get an error message. It says "extension failed to initialize: cannot open extend.dat" It tells me to find the file and make sure I have permission to open it. I have performed searches and the file was not found.

The file should be in {drive}\Documents and settings\{your name}\local
settings\application data\microsoft\outlook

If you cannot find it {the file is not hidden}, open any Office application
and try Help, Detect and repair. You will need your Office CD.

If i find the .dat file in the 'local settings\appdata\microsoft\outlook', then how to resolve the error "extension failed to initialize: cannot open extend.dat" and what to do with the .dat file ...
