Outlook Error: can't open this item,out of memor.

when I try opening an item on my inbox in outlook 2000, I get ff error message

'can't open this item,out of memory or system resources. close some windows
or programs and try again'

Please what could be responsible for this. Cheers.
 
Do you have multiple instances of Outlook running? Check your task manager -
Processes tab.
 
No I haven't got any attachment on the email and no Have not not multiple
windows running

If your mail is delivered to personal folders, it could be that your
..pst file is very large. I have noticed lost functionality with Outlook
when a users .pst file is around 1.5 gig
