Outlook downloads mail but does not show them

Hi,

we are using a stand alone Outlook 2003 SP1 on a w2k SP4 Box. We had to swap
out the program disk today (drive E:) but copied everything onto the new
drive before installing it. All programs work, including Outlook. It sends
messages and receives mail from several POP3 accounts. I can see it download
them but they do not show in the inbox. How can I find out where the messages
get stored and how can I import them? Are there any log files that show what
exactly Outlook is doing?

I'll be greatful for any hints!

Thanks for coming back! However, I don't quite see how that can help us. I
tried the backup/restore and moving of the pst file, that all works. I see
all old mail, calendar, contacts, etc. But when I download mails I see them
come down but they do not show in the inbox. Where could they go and how do I
get them there?

Thanks
Wolf

I had hoped doing a proper restore using the steps listed would have your
email coming into the Inbox. Have you verified that you're not filtering mail
somehow? Check your view by clicking on View / Current view and make sure
that Messages is the one ticked. Also expand your folder tree and make sure
that your mail is not being diverted to other folders (do you have any rules
applied?) or a second Inbox that may be kicking around. Let me know!

Click Tools>E-mail Accounts>Next. Look at the "Deliver new e-mail tot he
following location" drop-down. That's where Outlook is delivering new
items. If that points to your existing PST, then make sure you are not
filtering the Inbox somehow.

Thanks for the tips to both of you!

Here's what I've done, but still no joy:
Moved PST file to a different place and changed the pointer in Otlook
accordingly.
Deleted all other PST files on the machine.
Moved the archive.pst files to a different place, too.
Searched for OST files, none found.
Deleted all my rules.
Sent several mails, some pretty large (4.8MB).
I can see them being downloaded in the right lower corner of the screen.
But they do not show up in the inbox nor does the PST file increase in size.
I sure would like to understand more about how OL works!
Any more ideas before I reinstall Outlook completely?

Cheers

Hi,
forgo to to mention in my answer to Brian:
Message with preview is set.
No other inbox to be found.
Threw out all my rules alsthough I had not changed any before the issue
arrived.
What I had done before the issue started: Replaced the E drive where OL is
installed with a larger drive. Had copied everything to the new drive and
none of the programs seemed to mind. OL started OK but doesn't show mails
every since.
is there a detailled explanantion of how OL works somewhere? I'll probably
have to reinstall it but I'd like to know the reason for this behaviour,
should it happen at one of my customers.
What I don't get at all is that the PST file doesn't increase when it
downloads mails. Looks like OL throws the mails out, doesn't it, but why?

Cheers
