outlook doesn't open, what's happened?

Used outlook for years. Today, suddenly cannot open Outlook either from the
shortcut on the desktop, or from the program menu.
 
Does it start in safe mode?

How to:
Start > Run
Type: outlook.exe /safe
OK button

Other than that, it would help if you mentioned what version you are using.
Does it give any error messages? Is Outlook listed in task manager's
process list?
