outlook does not connect to mail server upon application start

I have the box checked to automatically send and receive
when outlook is started. Every time I start outlook, it
does not send or recieve. I have to initiate the
send/receive manually.

Bummer - care to share your Outlook version and what you have set under
send/receive settings?

Post all replies to the group to keep the discussion intact. Due to
the (insert latest virus name here) virus, all mail sent to my personal
account will be deleted without reading.

After searching google.groups.com and finding no answer, beth asked:
