I have an issue. I want to remove the Outlook desktok icon which shows up on
the desktop by defualt when you install office 2003 on a w2k system. What
i've done in the past is just delte it and this prevents it form showing up
on every users desktop who logs onto that workstation. Should I be doing
this? IS there a way to hide it/prevent it form showing up? Whjat are the
dangers of what I've been doing.

The danger: users won't know to go to control panel to create a profile or
where to find a shortcut to open outlook :) Otherwise, none. (Note that
Winxp adds it to the start menu instead.)

You should be able to remove it during deployment or with a logon script.

You can modify the registry for this (in case you want to remove it for all
your desktops by using a script)

Hi George,

Thanks for posting here! Thanks Diane and Roady for great info!

I completely agree with Diane. Basically, you can right click the Outlook
desktop shortcut created during Office Installation, and then create
Outlook Profile. If you don't care this feature, you can remove the Outlook
shortcut directly without any negative impact. And after that, user will go
to Control Panel to create new Outlook profile.

Hope I clarify it. If there is anything unclear, feel free to let us know.
Thanks!
