Everytime I launch outlook there is a five minute delay or
more.

I have larege 1G + .pst files, but was told by a
microsoft tech they are made to go up to 2G. Could this
becausing the delay in launching Outlook?

Any answers are appreciated!
Thanks

Sounds like a corrupt PST. Have you run SCANPST? Also,
if you are running OL2000 or higher disable the instant
messaging option under the Advanced options.

it could be - especially if outlook doesn't close properly and needs to
check the consistency of the pst. Which version are you using? Do you have
IMAP accounts in the profile? If so, they could also be the cause, but it's
usually after Outlook looks like it should be completely loaded.

You should break up that large.pst file into smaller
ones. The size alone could cause the delay. That is a
lot of data to process particularly if there are Rules
running that would search through it or something.

I'm running Outlook 2000. I'll attempt the scanpst and see
if that resolves the issue.

No IMAP accounts int he profile.

If scanpst does not work, any other trouble shooting
suggestions?

Scanpst does what the consistence check does... lets see how it goes.
Breaking the pst into smaller pst's will help some, but it's really not that
big of a deal unless you have an older, slower machine (and rules doesn't
run on the messages in the pst, only on messages coming into it).

Now - you don't want to let the pst get over about 1.7 GB - so you should
move older messages you no longer need instant access to, to a new pst
before it gets that large. The max is 2GB but you don't want to wait until
it gets that large to do something...

Diane,
Scanpst didn't find any problems. The .pst files were
compacted, but yet there is still at least a three minute
delay.

Any other suggestions?

What kind of server are you connecting to? How many accounts in the profile?
How many addins do you have installed? These are all things that can affect
how fast it opens... especially if the machine is older. Unless you have a
lot of accounts, a lot of addins loading, and a slow computer, the only
thing left is the pst size - reduce it by at least half. Close outlook, make
a copy of the pst, open outlook - delete the older items (especially things
you haven't used in weeks) and compact - close outlook. Does it open faster?
(Backup the copy you made earlier to keep as an archive... )

It's never going to be instant - mine takes about 2 min with a 300 meg ost,
several addins and some imap accounts. It's longer if the IMAP servers can't
be reached.
