Outlook corrupted, how do I backup, remove and reinstall?

I have had mild problems with Outlook for about 18 mos. Time to fix.
Downloaded backup program, but believe I have some sort of corruption in
Windows XP Pro as well because I cannot back up there either and now it won't
bac kup Outlook. I can't lose my info so how do I fix, backup, reinstall? Can
I just put the Office disk in and reinstalll over the old or would I lose
all? Is there some "under the radar virus" causing backup problems because I
know two other people, one across the country with same prob. Thx.

Have you run a AV check on your computer with updated AV and definitions?
Have you run Detect and Repair?

If yes to both and the results are the same, just copy your .pst file (with
OUtlook closed) to the location of your choice for re-use when you reinstall
Windows and Office.

Thx for your response. I know just enough to get into trouble. Please tell me
what and AV check and how to get the updated AV and definitions. Also, if I
were to copy my entire Outlook, will it fit onto a floppy disk since my
system does not recognize when I've put a blank CD or DVE into my drives. It
will stop a third of the way through saving, tell me to put a bland disk into
the drive, when I do, it says it is not there, which is why I think I have a
virus in my Windows program. I have run my virus scan manually, I use Spybot
and Ad-Aware. Again, thanks for your help Milly.

AV = Antivirus. Definitions are weekly or sometimes daily updates to
include prevention for the latest threats. From what you have posted, it
sounds like you don't use AV or have an expired trial version.

If that is the case, then try this: http://housecall.trendmicro.com/ It is
a free on-line scanner that will scan your computer for viruses and remove
them.

As for the .pst file fitting on a floppy, I doubt it as they are usually
several megabytes - mine is almost 2 gigs. Do you have an external USB
drive? Anyplace else to copy it? A website where you could store it?
