Outlook can't move items from inbox to folders

I need help getting Outlook 2002 to move several messages
from the inbox to a folder at one time. I have
highlighted the various messages and then tried to drag-
drop them to the folder, the I get a "can't move the
items" message without further elaboration. Please help
me shrink my inbox!

Right click and select Move to Folder. The rest is self

It would still be nice to know why the problem happens and how to make
dragging work.

I had the problem just now, and I was able to solve it by closing all my
open applications (i'm on xp) and then re-opening outlook.

The dragging suddenly started working after this.
