Outlook cannot connect to smtp server

Kohsel

I have a computer problem which in short is that the connection to the
smtp-mailserver is not established when trying to send an email from
outlook 2002. The operating system is win XP and all recent service
packs are installed.

I believe that the problems is within Norton Antivirus 2003, since the
log-file of the mailserver does not show any attempt to log on to the
server. I have tried to uninstall NAV2003 and reinstall it without any
success. Also I have tried to "not scan outgoing mails" also with no
success.

The error-message ID produced is 0x80042109. I am able to retrieve
messages from the mail account, but not send.

Any hints or solutions is very much appreciated.

Have you tried uninstalling NAV, then retrieving mail from your server? It
may be NAV that is the problem.

As I mentvioned I have tried to uninstall NAV without any success. I also
believe that NAV is the problem but I cant figure out how and where the
invinsible layer that NAV is forming between the mailserver and outlook is
defined on the computer.

Do you have email scanning activated on NAV? Try turning that off. It
doesn't make you any more secure anyway......

We have tried with email-scanning on and off and even tried to
uninstall NAV 2003 without any success at all !

I'd suggest that you talk to Symantec's support folks about why NAV is not
uninstalling.
