Outlook attachments are trying to open with Paint instead of Word

My Word attachments in Outlook won't open because every time I double click
one to open it I get an error message that says I cannot open this attachment
with Paint.

Where do I go to change this setting so the attachments will open with MS
Word?

This is a Windows setting and not an Outlook setting;
Control Panel-> Folder Options-> tab File Types
