outlook and xp

Tendril

I have installed outlook (as part of office 2000 pro) on my xp machine but
it won't remember passwords for sending and recieving emails, even though
the relavent boxes are ticked. Is there a fix for this? all updates have
been installed as well, but didn't cure the problem. Also seem unable to
customise outlook today start page.

Apologies if this has been covered already.

Many thanks
