outlook and vista

sending emails works when i am using isp at home. when laptop connected
elsewhere, sending messages is a problem. error messages about a failure to
sign onto outgoing server. have tried every conceivable account setting but
still canot send

Did you configure the e-mail account defined in Outlook to authenticate
to the SMTP server?

Your ISP may either require authentication when connecting from a foreign IP
host (as Vanguard suggests), or they may not even allow connection from a
foreign IP host, or require it on a port other than port 25. Only your ISP
tech support staff knows which it is. Either consult their online help (if
they have it), or call their support number.
 
Thanks for your suggestions. have tried all your suggestions including
working with isp tech. they couldn't solve the problem.

funny thing is that when i use a wireless service at a hotel the problem
doesn't always present...
