Outlook and AVG

We have AVG installed. I get lots of email from various outside sources
including some government entities. Each email I get has an attachment for
the AVG scanning process. When I print an email, the AVG .txt file
automatically prints. This is such a waste of time, paper, and ink. Is there
a way to have Outlook not put the attachment on or at least not print it
automatically?

Hi Ken,

You just turn off "notification" within the AVG application...here's how:

put your curser over the AVG icon in your tray (lower right of your screen),
right click, and select "Open AVG Interface"

The select (In AVG) Tools / Advanced Settings, and click on the E-mail
Scanner item. In the window you'll see two checked box for "Certify email"
for both incoming & outgoing. Simply uncheck those two boxes & then "Apply"
and then "OK".

However...if I did something like this, I'd close the AVG window and reboot
my machine...Too many of these applications accept an "apply" or "ok", but
the code from the previous action is still in memory, and by rebooting,
you'll insure that old parameter is properly updated.

Good Luck!

Thanks SetiRich....I figured it was something that simple. Having never
worked with AVG I was not sure how to go about it and did not want to waste a
lot of time. Just to clarify one thing that I know I will be asked by my
boss...this will not turn off the scanning process....just the notification
process, correct?

I've had my scanning shut off for...several years now. I've not had any
problems at all. Frankly, the only problems I have with Outlook is the
frequent failure of the junk mail filter...some months...it just stops
working...then next months update....starts working again. Have never really
taken the time to figure it out.

Again, the other commenter's are correct (at least in my view) and the major
issues I have with AVG is it's tendency to want to eliminate the scripts I
write for my machines. I use AutoIt3 extensively, and run them compiled.
Seems that every month or so AVG thinks something I've written is hostile to
the system.

What I've ended up doing is to declare certain folders off-limits to any
virus or spy-ware program, from within their "exclude" facility, which they
all have.

The end comment here is that by keeping your system patched and your
bad-ware programs up to date, your going to be protected. Of course, you
could do all that and still do dumb things like....surfing to questionable
sites with an admin id...

Or using Windows.
