Outlook adds attachment when receiving text emails

Just recently I have noticed that a lot of my emails are
ending up with attachments.
I have ran a few tests and it appears that outlook is
adding a .txt file with the filename comming from the
subject line of the email received. e.g. email
subject 'Hello' will end up with a Hello.txt attachemnt to
the email. This only appears to occur with text emails,
html emails are not altered. I have checked on the mail
server and the attachement is not seen there and I can
also read the email into outlook express and this does not
add the attachment! I have tried turing off NAV and
SpamPal (spam detection) and neither makes any difference.
I am running outlook 2000 and am not aware of performing
any updates to outlook or office since seeing the problem.

Any help appretiated.
Thanks,
Keith

Does the .txt attachment have the same message body as your mail message?
If yes, this can happen when Outlook has been open for a really long time
(weeks) and can be cured by a shutdown and restart of Outlook. Sometimes,
it may be necessary to shut down and restart Windows as well.

Milly,
Thanks for your reply. Yes the attachment does contain the
text of the email.
Normally the PC is on 24/7 but it has been rebooted
several times in the last week after an install, however
the problem was happening before. As the system has been
re-powered several times I do not think that another one
will solve the problem but will I will try later. It does
however sound as if you are on the right track, any other
thoughts?

Keith
