Outlook (accessing address book) HELP!!!!!!!!

R

Randie Mills

I am using outlook 2003 and a program called motorola my
mail. This program accesses the inbox, scans for new
messages, then forwards them to my wireless device. It
accesses the inbox every few minutes, but I get this
message>>>>>>

"A program is trying to access e-mail addresses you have
stored in Outlook. Do you want to allow this?" What does
it mean and what should I do?
Some viruses, such as the Melissa virus or ILOVEYOU
virus, try to access addresses in the Address Book to
spread the virus to more computers. Whenever Outlook
detects a program trying to gain access to the Address
Book, it displays this message as a security precaution.
However, the program accessing the Address Book is not
necessarily a harmful virus. Instead, you could just be
synchronizing your Contacts with a personal digital
assistant (PDA), in which case it is safe to allow access
to the Address Book. You have three choices when this
message appears:

To allow the program access for this instance only (such
as for one contact), click Yes.
To allow access for a specified time of up to 10 minutes,
select the Allow Access for check box, and then click a
time period in the list. For example, you might need 10
minutes of access time to synchronize your entire
Contacts folder with a PDA.
Click No if you didn't start a program to access the
Address Book or if you are suspicious about what's going
on.

+++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++

So, is there any way to bypass this? The maximum time
allowed is 10 minutes. Why can there not be a box to
permanently allow access?

This is a real problem for me, Can anyone help?

Thank you

If that program you use is properly written you won't get those
prompts. See if they have an update. Since the program was written by
someone else and you don't seem to be using Exchange server there
isn't much you can do except possibly try using Express ClickYes. See
http://www.slipstick.com/outlook/esecup.htm#autosec for more
information.

I am in the same boat as Randie with this security message. The program is written just fine - the problem is Outlook and we need an MS patch to be made asap for those of us who want to get rid of it. Far as I am concerned it is not the job of MS to discriminate what programs should be allowed to access my Outlook. Most virus software gives the user the ability to do this at their discretion. In the end it should be up to me if I need/want to allow it. Just the usual MS deskjockey proprietary designation garbage - my copy is going in the trash because of this. I suggest anyone else with this problem do the same.
