Outlook 97 in Windows XP

Good day all ...

Using Outlook 97 in Windows XP, it appears to install OK but stops when
first running with an error message stating USER32.dll is faulting. This
happens when Outlook is building the Outlook bar. Anyone know how to get
round this?. Outlook 97 has always run OK in Win XP before but I had to
reinstall XP due to a HD crash.
