Outlook 2007 will not shut down in Vista

Hi,

Whenever I click on the "X" in Outlook 2007, or go File/Exit, OUTLOOK.EXE
actually stay loaded in the Windows Task Manager. This is annoying as my wife
and I share the PST files over a network, on two different computers. It is
the only thing that prevents this from working 100%. On my wife's XP Pro
computer this is not an issue.

I have found on the WWW that I am not alone in having this issue, and know
there is not an apparent solution. However, can someone tell me how to set up
a shortcut which kills the OUTLOOK.EXE via the Windows Task Manager?

If you have a mobile device connected, it will keep Outlook open so it can
sync. Is Outlook running in the system tray?

Hi,

No, Outlook is not apperent in the system tray, only when you open up
Windows Task Manager do you realise that OUTLOOK.EXE is still running,
preventing anyone else from using the PST files.

Also, I have no mobile devices connected, though I do have a few set up in
Windos Mobile Device Centre.

Hi KillerBob,

This is a well-known problem and one that I also experience. It is
extremely annoying to me because I need to close Outlook before I run a
program that backs up PST files and IE settings/links etc. The program will
not run if Outlook is still running so having to start up Task Manager and
manually kill the Outlook process each time is exceedingly tiresome. I
would say it happens in 9 out of 10 attempts to close Outlook. I am not
running any programs that link with Outlook or interface with Outlook so it
has no reason to hang around after I have requested it to close. But it
does. Unfortunately I do not know of any solution but I thought you would
like to hear from someone who is also affected.

Hi, Bob.

What happens if you right-click on the Outlook icon in the Notification Area
(which we old-timers still call the SysTray) and then remove the check from
Hide when Minimized?

I haven't used Outlook much and I didn't know about that until I saw others
discussing it here. But that is apparently how we keep OL running in the
background, ready to pop up a reminder or receive incoming mail.
