outlook 2007 vista

I have just set up my email account in outlook, on a new laptop. I can send
emails but when it tries to download mail it just sits there at 50% and does
nothing.

In your new laptop did you run MSUpdate, for critical updates first?
Then when you installed Outlook or Office, did you then re-run MSUpdate?
Finally when you configured Outlook did you use the test accounts option?

What kind of 3rd party security software do you have installed? (e.g.
antivirus, antispam, and 3rd party firewall configurations may interfere
with Outlook/Vista)
