Why do my e-mails disappear after opening them? An e-mail arrived, I open
it, read it, then close it. When I navigate to another folder and then
return to the Inbox, the message is gone. It's not in any other folder such
as Deleted, Archived, etc.

Make sure you're using the "Messages" view and not the "Unread Messages" view.
