Outlook 2007 randomly showing HTML messages as plain text

My Outlook 2007 has suddenly started showing random messages as plain
text instead of HTML (for instance, I get the Page A Day calendar
every morning, and last week it started showing up in plain text
instead of the HTML I've gotten for 2+ years now). It's not every
message (although it does tend to be every message from particular
senders, like Page A Day), and when I go to my online account, it's
still in HTML (I use gmail and download into Outlook). I use AVG Anti-
Virus Free v8, and no settings in there seem to address it, so it's
not likely my anti virus. Any ideas?

is the antivirus scanning inbound email? if so, disable it. Same for any
external antispam program.

This has been driving me crazy till I found this post.
I upgraded my antivirus from AVG 7 to AVG 8 about two weeks ago and
now I realize that is when my HTML email messages from some senders
went away that had been sending me messages for years in HTML.
Isn't that risky turning off the inbound scan?
