outlook 2007 problems with outgoing mail not appearing in out box

I have a problem that means when I send an email the outbox dosen't show any
message in it and there is no corrisponding entry in sent mail. When I shut
outlook down I get the message that there are unsent mail items in the outbox
but they do not appear to be ther. I have run the diagnostics and they all
check out

When you watch the send/receive progress, are there any error messages and/or
numbers generated?

Try resetting the Outbox view to its default value.
