Outlook 2007: Paste - Pasting Addresses from To CC in E-mail body onlyshows display name

Hello,

I know this question has been asked a few times, but I still do not feel I've read a clear explaination.

When I see external or internal names in the To line, somtimes they are like Smith, Tom <[email protected]>; Smith, Becky <[email protected]>

And if I select them, right click copy, and go into the message body and click paste, it only pastes the display name.

I'm not trying to recreate a distribution list. I'm not trying to recover lost contacts. I work with a lot of vendors and act as a bridge between the business and IT, and often I have to cut and paste e-mail addresses into the body of a message when I forward, and cannot do so as it just pastes the display name.

Is there really no way to disable this "feature" and just have it paste what is being displayed in the To or CC line ?? I dont want to have to right click on each address, go to properties, and select the e-mail address from there, copy that, in order to paste it into the message body.

One-offs is alright, but if I have 3-4 email addresses I'm copying it becomes time consuming.

Any configuration item I can change to have it paste the email address, not the just the 'Smith, Becky' display name without the full smtp?

Just an update as well, even if I try to cut and paste into notepad first, it still only pastes the display names, and takes out the email address. So it has something to do with the formatting and display of the To: CC: lines.

Also doing a select, copy, and clicking in the Message Body and clicking Paste Special doesn't help, it still just pastes the display names.

It how outlook handles the addresses.

Are you replying to a message these users sent? If so, copy the addresses
from the message header. (In an open message, this is on the options chunk
of the ribbon - click the little arrow in the right corner to expand it. )

Thanks for the time of the reply.

When I look at the email, and do a reply, in the original email I just see the display names on the To: line.

In the Active reply, on the to line, I see the Display names + the email addresses.

There's 8 names there that I want to capture the email addresses of and copy/paste them into a new e-mail to someone internally, without replying to everyone on the list.

I have the options ribbon, but I dont see what you mean about copying the addresses from the the message header. If I select those in the To Line of my reply message, it just copies the display names. Whats in the original email header is just the display names.

When I click on Options on the Ribbon, I see themes, fields, format, tracking, and more options. The arrow in the right corner brings me to message options, but its message settings, security settings, voting/tracking, delivery options, contacts, and categories. I dont see anything about copying the message header (which includes the email addresses of all the peoeple).

Am I making sense? What am I missing?

Oh, I see now, before opening the message, right click on the message in say my inbox, message options, and I will see the internet headers box with a ton of information and can find the e-mail addresses there.

So its safe to assume even though the email address is displayed in the From or To line, there is no easy way to copy and paste that email address as its always going to resolve to a display name when doing so?

Correct - the addresses in the To line are resolved so its hard to capture
the address. You'll get the display name - basically, only what you see in
the To line in the preview pane.

The To line in the internet header will have both the address and the
display name. Its fairly easy to clean up the names -

I know its a bit of an old thread, but here's a solution of sorts:
Assuming that the email addresses you want to add to your email are in your address book:
1. Click Attach Item
2. Choose Contacts from the items shown
3. Select the Text Only radio button
4. Select the contact(s) who's email address you want to add
5.Click OK.
Outlook will insert all the details for that contact, so delete what you don't want...
