Outlook 2007 - lost tasks and can't see new mail

I am running Windows XP with all service packs. Just upgraded from Office
2003 to Office 2007. Outlook 2007 cannot find my tasks.

Plus, when I am viewing my mail, in order to see any new mail I have to
switch to some other folder (contacts, calendar, etc.) and switch back to
mail in order to see mail that has arrived since I opened mail.
