Outlook 2007 email notification

I just loaded outlook 2007 and it looks great except for the email
notification. in outlook 2003 I had a rule set up that would take any
messages from a specific account and move them to a specific folder. When I
would get a new email from this account the rule would move it and I would
see the email envelope on the task bar showing that I had new mail. Now in
Outlook 2007 the rule still works fine but I don't see the email envelope on
the task bar. Did they change this from working in 07? I get the email
notification whenever a new email is in my default inbox. How come this won't
work anymore for rules that move new mail? Is there another way to make this
happen?

What do you mean "an upgraded mail profile" Is it possible to get that for
2007 as well? I'm currently using the new mail desktop notifier but it always
pops up on top of my other windows. That can be a bit annoying. I would much
rather the envelope. Is there any way to get this function to work in 2007?

Actually Outlook 2003 didn't do this either unless you had an upgraded mail
profile. There are many other notifications you can use and a more usefull
than the envelope. See;

It basically was a corruption going from Outlook 2002 to 2003. It had some
other issues as well. The envelope is only for Inbox messages. The New Mail
Desktop Alert can be set up to pop-up anywhere on your screen and it will go
away automatically after your set time-out. How would you rate that
annoying?

Well I just started using it and it just pops up on top of my windows that
I'm working in. I didn't realize you could set the time out operation. How is
that done?

Interestingly I have the same problem. I had a 'fresh' Windows XP install,
with Outlook 2003. I set up rules so that mail for my gmail account goes to
one subfolder off the inbox and another email account to a seperate folder.

I received a little systray envelope and desktop notification.

Then I upgraded to Outlook 2007 and that doesn't work any more.

I don't recall having to specially set up any rules regarding desktop
notifications when I created the rules that move emails to the subfolders, so
I'm assuming that the desktop notification in 2003 was a function of the
email arriving in the inbox, triggering a desktop notification and envelope,
then the rule moving it to a subfolder (but feel free to shoot my theory down
in flames).

It would seem that upgrading, as usual, is never as easy as it ought to be.
Perhaps I should just revert to 2003, that worked fine.

I should also mention that I tried the global desktop alert suggestion on the
site and also added it to each individual rule.

And that brings up the alart, for a few seconds. But if you aren't in front
of the computer you aren't going to see it. The envelope was a useful way of
knowing that you had messages waiting. Outlook 2007 doesn't seem to offer
this facility so I'll go back to 2003.

I totally agree with BearUK.
In my opinion this is a real shortcoming of Outlook 2007. What are those all
advanced filtering rules for if I can't see this tray envelope for my
incoming messages. Most of us use filtering rules for separating messages to
various inbox subfolders. And not everybody is sitting in front of the
computer 24 h a day to see 30 seconds of desktop alert.

Yeah, thanks Roady. The trick is really useful.
I just wanted to take note of this shortcoming.
A similar thing concerns the sound notification. If one message is moved (by
the rules) to a given subfolder then we don't hear any sound even if the
option of playing sound is checked. Of course we can add a special 'play
sound' action for our rule but then if we have several subfolders, several
rules and several incoming messages in one moment then the sound will play
several times (every time a new message is moved to a given subfolder). So it
seems impossible to adjust Outlook options to show only one permanent
announcement and to play only one sound independently on the number of
incoming messages and independently on where they are moved. Additionally for
some of us this small envelope can be more useful than the large desktop
alert. Especially if we are busy (watching movies, programming, writing
important documents). Another shortcoming of the desktop alert is that it
doesn't disappear after our new messages are red. We have to close it
manually. The little envelope reacts to the state of new messages. If they
are marked as red then the envelope disappears.
Do you think that there are any chances to see it improved by Microsoft
Office updates ?

Prozac

Has there been any updates in this area. I just got Outlook 2007 and NEED my
envelope alert for my inbox subfolders!!

Any other workarounds which give you an alert envelope??

Thanks!
