Outlook 2007 Contacts: Private Button

I've been meaning to post this question for ages but kept forgetting. In
Outlook 2003 there was a 'Private' click-on to hide the contents of a Contact
as there is in Outlook 2007. However I have numerous Contacts that were
classified as Private in 2003 and since converting to 2007 through all of the
beta versions to the final release, which I'm now using, none of my Contacts
are Private, i.e. I can see the contents even though the Private button is
clicked on. Any ideas?

Setting a contact to Private doesn't mean that you can't see it. It means other people can't see it.

Sue--

In 2003 I could not see the contents of the individual content of a private
Contact, only the name of the Contact. As an example, I store all of my
airline frequent flyer numbers as a private Contact entry. In 2003 I could
only see the name of the Contact, not the content. In 2007 I see both. You
mention "...other people can't see it." If I can see it how can I be sure
others can't see it.

Could not see it where? In a view? In an individual contact window?

You'd need to look over their shoulders.

Could not see it in an individual contact window. Please note below where I
stated the only viewable content was the Contact name itself, nothing else.
This 'private' content would even transfer over to Lotus Notes when I used to
have to synchronize calendar & content entries with it.

Your second answer, while I'm sure in jest, is nonethless not helpful at
all. If you mark a Contact entry Private, the content within should not be
viewable by anyone, period.

No jest intended at all. Private in Outlook has always meant not visible to someone else, unless the owner of the mailbox allows the delegate to see it. To confirm what other people is seeing, you'd need to look at their screen or log on as them.

I've never heard of a case like that in Outlook 2003 or any other version and cannot visualize it, nor can I imagine how it might happen. A screen shot might be interesting, if you can post one somewhere.

Unfortunately I can't post a screenshot of the hidden Contact in 2003 as I no
longer have it on my machine.
