Outlook 2007 - Can't save pictures from HTML e-mails

Karl Laun

I have recently switched from using Outlook 2003 to Outlook 2007. I have
found that when I receive HTML formated e-mails, although I can see the
pictures in the message body, I am unable to save them locally to my
computer.

Unless my memory is really failing, In 2003 I could simply right-click the
photo and choose "save picture as..." Now the only option is "copy" and that
doesn't do what I expect it to do. I can view the message properties and it
reports that there are embedded files. The save attachment option does no
produce the desired results either. So far, the help files don't.

I would like to thank everyone who responded (No one did, but I would LIKE
to anyway)

I did finally find something on this in the MSKB

http://support.microsoft.com/kb/917120

However, the copy and paste into an imaging ap doesn't seem to work, at
least not with Photoshop CS2.
My workaround so far is to just do a screen capture with SnagIt. I haven't
had any really large images to deal with yet, as they usually get sent as
straight attachments as opposed to embedded in html format.

Anyone else had this problem? Different workaround?

Karl,
Did you find any thing out about the right click to save pictures. I just
installed 2007 version and can not save any pictures with the right click. I
really miss this.
Thank you

I just found this discussion because I'm having the same problem. I am trying
to copy images from email messages I've received into Adobe Photoshop
Elements 4.0. It doesn't work. (I'm using Office 2007 and Outlook 2007 on
Windows XP Pro.)

Photoshop Elements has a "File/New/Image from clipboard" command. The idea
is to copy an image from another program, and then put the image into
Photoshop Elements to work on it.

But when I copy an image from a received message in Outlook 2007, the
Photoshop Elements "File/New/Image from clipboard" menu item is grayed (not
available). Photoshop Elements doesn't know there's anything in the Windows
clipboard to paste. I suspect a bug in Outlook 2007's copy function.

The workaround I have found is to paste the image into Wordpad and then copy
it from there. After I do this, the "File/New/Image from clipboard" command
is available in Photoshop Elements.

This workaround should not be necessary; Outlook 2007 should be capable of
making a simple copy of an image so it can be used in any other Windows
program.

Roady: Thanks for the code, but my pictures still don't show up in the folder
I select.

Has anyone found another work around for this problem? I am trying to save
pictures from an email, they are not attachments, they are embedded in the
email. This is really frustrating, and so far I am not too happy with
Outlook 2007.

Ok, I got the macro to work. I had to create a signed cert, then it seemed
to work. Thanks Roady.
