Outlook 2007 - can't get hotmail mail

People. Don't be so tough on Brian. If you look to his first reply in this
string on Sept 1st, he recommends - "I'd delete the account and readd it via
the Outlook Connector menu in Outlook." We must look past Brian's comments
like "Consider yourself told." and "This isn't something new. Microsoft
announced this move YEARS ago". Ignore those and look back to his first
suggestion. Brian's solution works great! I would not initially delete the
old account until you are sure that all of your important email is viewable
in the new account.

Like most of you, I proactively added the Outlook connector ahead of time.
My Calendars and Contacts were successfully migrated. I continued to receive
emails through my MSN/Hotmail account. Everything worked great until 6:39AM
on Sept. 1st. What a disaster. Shame on Microsoft for not fully testing
this connector and not giving us the one piece of information Brian gave us -
Create a new account.

The steps to correct this problem are:

After installing the Outlook Connector, Open Outlook. You will notice the
new "Outlook Connector" selection in the Menu Bar (7th from the left).

Click on it and select "Add a new Account"

Enter your MSN/Hotmail email address and password.

Voila! You should now see your new Outlook Connector account (displayed as
your email address).

Click the "+" next to the new mail account to expand the account displaying
your mail folders.

Make sure all email is displayed in the new account. I noticed several
emails delivered on the motning of Sept. 1st were not in the new account.

thanks Gail - it does look like MANY people are being affected by this
error.Here's the specific error message:

Task 'Hotmail - Sending' reported error (0x800CCC33) : 'Access to the
account was denied. Verify that your username and password are correct. The
server responded 'Forbidden'. '

Task 'Hotmail: Folder:Inbox Synchronizing headers.' reported error
(0x800CCC33) : 'Access to the account was denied. Verify that your username
and password are correct. The server responded 'Forbidden'. '

Everybody who accesses Hotmail via HTTPMail is affected. Hotmail has turned
down a protocol necessary for HTTPMail access using MS Outlook Express, MS
Outlook 2003, MS Outloook 2007, and Entourage. The fix is variable:

Am told you have to remove the account from Outlook, install this Outlook
Connector, then reconfigure the account.

Alternative, which will not synchronize your folders, is to configure for
POP3/SMTP access, as described here:

Even though it says, "Outlook Express", the configuration is similar for any
client capable of POP3/SMTP access (though where you find the appropriate
configuration menus can vary widely, depending on the client).

Please tell me that Microsoft isn't going to force us to use the Outlook
Connector ...

Only if you want folder synchronization, and don't want to install Windows
Live Mail to get it. Otherwise, you can use POP3/SMTP access.

A POP email account will deliver mail to the default Inbox in your pst file.
That's where all your downloaded emails will appear. If you want all your
Hotmail folders to show then you need to install the Outlook Connector.

Or the OP can use a rule to move the messages received via the Hotmail account
to a separate folder, like an Inbox in a different PST.

The poster I was replying to said: "In the past when I set up account,

Actually, it wasn't the original poster (Beth) to whom you were responding.
It was "robinjdr" and that person said explicitly " reconfigured my outlook
2003 to change hotmail to a POP acct.." I took that to mean s/he didn't know
why there were not separate folders any more, which is what I thought you were
explaining as well. You assumed, perhaps correctly, that Robin wanted the
separate folders back. I assumed s/he would continue with a POP account, and
was suggesting a way to see at least one separate folder. Both your and my
suggestions are valid, just alternative. I wanted to present another approach
to what you suggested so that Robin could pick one.
