NPM86--
There is also an Outlook BCM newsgroup, but I think a couple of my
experiences might do the job for you.
There are two issues to consider here and they aren't particularly easy to
find out: I put the solutions up at the top of this long message and the
backgrond is below. I also included a solution from Outlook MVP and book
author Sue Mosher that sometimes works:
1) There Is a file in a folder I will show you that you may have left over
from Office 2003 if you uninstalled it prior to uninstalling Office 2007
including Outlook and Outlook 2007 BCM. It was:
C:\Windows\System 32\IrisM32.dll which is directly associated with BCM
2003.
It does not always uninstall when you uninstall Office 2003, Outlook 2003
with BCM or BCM 2003, and it will jam you up big time causing multiple IMAP1
message boxes in your face and they will not quit until you nuke it so look
for it.
2) There is a situation if you are trying to use Office 2003 with BCM 2003
that it uses a .net 1.1 framework and *may have problems if you have a more
advanced .net framework. Vista has a 3.0 .net framework. I had a problem
with OL BCM 2003 loading because at the time it came out, I was Beta testing
a 2.X .net framework and OL 2003 BCM didn't want it around and I had to
uninstall the more advanced .net framework and reinstall 1.1. My guess is
that you want to get the latest, Outlook 2007 BCM up and running and they
may have fixed this problem. I'm currently using Office 2007 Pro with
Outlook 2007 BCM on Vista RTM no problems.
I learned what I hope will help you when I loaded Outlook2007 via Office
2007 (a Beta on an XP boot on a dual boot Vista and XP machine. I had no
Beta problem I know now. I had no problem on the Vista boot. I had a bunch
of Imapi boxes popping up in my face however, everytime I tried to Open up
Outlook 2007 on XP with BCM and I think my problem, though on XP could have
happened on Vista and will extrapolate to help you. Multiple boxes sprung
up and it was a little like that old classic movie"The Body Snatchers"
where if you killed one box three more jumped up in its place.
Here's what worked, and I have more information and one other solution
below:
The culprit for me was C:\Windows\System 32\IrisM32.dll which is directly
associated with BCM 2003.
1) I used to have BCM 2003 in Add/Remove and it wouldn't remove. Finally it
disappeared. I am not sure however if uninstalling Office 2003 had any
impact on this, because in order to get in Outlook 2007 of course, I had to
uninstall Outlook 2003 in the first place. I realized this when Outlook
2007 would not install so I selectively uninstalled OL 2003 and reinstalled
Outlook 2007 with no trouble.
I had uninstalled Office 2003 which I had in concomitantly with Office 2007
(for comparison purposes) after your message. When I went looking for BCM
2003's files, .dlls I couldn't find them in the Office folders, and I had
used the Windows Installer Cleanup Utility. When I installed the Office
2007 trial it does not contain BCM in its Office plus package, although they
do offer it as a Beta separately according to the listings of Beta 2007
installs from the Office site.
I posted some addiitional info in a folloup to you back in June,
Finally after being able to use Outlook but getting these IMAPI IRIS
catastropic failure boxes in my face about 16 at a time since I posted on
6/16 (I could kill them but any folder Inbox, ect. calendar--essentially
anything I tried to open in Outlook would bring them back in force.
The best analogy I can make is they reminded me very much of a spyware box
that keeps popping up and won't quit.
After many googles and reading many associations of this with anything from
Norton often to Quick Books, and several other 3rd party apps, I found an
association of this with C:\Windows\System 32\IrisM32.dll. After checking
the properties of this .dll , and seeing that it was associated with BCM
2003, (and since I had no need for that and you suggested that obviously BCM
any component 2003 was likely to cause problems with BCM 2007and setting a
restore point just in case, I deleted it and the problem vanished.
1) BCM with Outlook 2003 requires an earlier .net framework installed and
can be spooked by .net framework 2.0 and 3.0. .net framework 3.0 is default
in Vista. Originally it was .net framework 1.1. It's not that you can't
install several .net frameworks on XP or Vista concomittantly, but I remeber
specifically I was beta testing a 2.x and BCM didn't like it and I had to
uninstall the Beta and use 1.1 for Office 2003. I'm using Office 2007 now
with BCM on Vista RTM and Vista has .net framework 3.0 and there have been
no Outlook or BCM problems. If you're running Outlook 2003 with BCM, this
patch is helpful:
http://blogs.officezealot.com/gorlach/archive/2004/07/20/2476.aspx
2) You should of course make sure that you properly uninstall any earlier
version of Outlook or the newer Outlook won't install. This is not true of
course if you elect to run an older Office version of any other app but
Outlook concomittantly with Outlook 2007 or if it were older than OL 2003
you could run it as well. Vista seems to support Outlook back through 2000
just fine.
That said however, here's what I had to do to make sure I got Outlook with
BCM 2003 up and running on my Vista builds prior to the release of Betas for
Office 2007.
Add/Remove has never been well made by MSFT and frankly, I doubt it ever
will. It's often erratic and sometimes requires a manual uninstall. In my
case it left behind a file that was interfering with the install and running
of the newer Outlook so here's what I did:
I had this problem on a dual boot and I think my solution to it will help
you. I was using a Beta of Outlook 2007 with BCM, but it wasn't a Beta per
se problem--it was a problem caused by files that weren't uninstalled
interfering with the loading and opening of Outlook 2007 with BCM.
On my XP boot, I get the multiplying refusing to die in your face error
message, "Managed MAPI Service Catastrophic Failure"-- Could not load file
or assembly CLR 'Iris.Mapi.Message.Store' or one of its dependancies."
The system cannot find the file specified.
I tried to follow Sue Mosher's advice here (Sue is a well known Outlook
expert, developer, book author and a fixture on the Outlook newsgroups and
has fixed thousands of Outlook problems for people over the years) and I
post it because it might help you--it wasn't the solution to my problem and
I talked with Sue via the Outlook general newsgroup on this after reading
her solution:
Sue Mosher, Outlook MVP
Author of Configuring Microsoft Outlook 2003
and Microsoft Outlook Programming - Jumpstart for
Administrators, Power Users, and Developers
I followed Sue's directions here:
http://www.pcreview.co.uk/forums/thread-1858724.php
Sue's Solution:
If you don't see the Business Tools menu, BCM probably failed to load when
Outlook started. Run Regedit and go to the
HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Office\Outlook\Addins\Micr
osoft.BusinessSolutions.eCRM.OutlookAddin.Connect. 1
key. If the value for LoadBehavior is something other than 3, make a backup
of the registry, edit LoadBehavior to set it to 3, then restart Outlook. You
can also check Help | About Microsoft Outlook | Disabled Items.
Tools | Trust Center | Addins >> It's in the Manage drop-down list at the
bottom of the window.
The 3 add-ins I have were disabled add-ins :
irisism32.dll
mscore.dll
msntbforoutlook.dll
From the error message that pops up, I might have hoped that the
irisms32.dll might have helped eliminate them.
I went to add/remove on the XP boot and found Business Contact Manager
O3--aha listed in Add Remove so when I immediately tried to remove it--I
thought it would have removed with the Office 2003 Pro removal--it
didn't--it says The Installation Source for this Product is Not Available"
and when I try the change button I get a box "This option is only valid if
the source is installed." I inserted the OL 2003 BCM CD and it did nothing
to impact this. I still have the entry in Add-Remove but I can't find
evidence of BCM Outlook 2003 anywhere. I'd hate to think that I had 274BM
of folders I can't find just taking up space and causing annoying boxes when
I open Outlook
I then ran the Diagonstic service in Office 2007. Running the Diagnostic
Service in 2007 produced nothing.
I then uninstalled and reinstalled Office 2007 Beta on XP with no
improvement.
Good luck,
CH
