Outlook 2007 Beta 2 - BIG problems

G

Guest

Errr. OK, I realise this is a Beta. I understand it is a Beta 2.

I know things dont always work as they should and that I should not 'rely'
on Beta software of any kind.

However, I 'think' I am safe in assuming that Outlook 2007 Beta 2 should be
able to receive my email and actually SHOW me the content....

I am concerned, I installed it, it runs (sort of OK), it appears to do what
it says it should, BUT, EVERY EMAIL I HAVE RECEIVED IN Outlook 2007 Beta 2
since I installed it IS BROKEN. I CANNOT SEE ANY CONTENT IN ANY EMAIL
RECEIVED.

They come into my inbox, but if you look at the space below you will see how
Outlook renders them....

So I am worried - surely a BETA2 would actually show me the email!!! I
cannot imagine MS sending this out to folks.....

How do I view my emails?

Provide complete details on how you installed the beta and migrated data and
account settings.
Always create a new profile when you try an upgrade installation.

I did.
None of the information anyone would need to troubleshoot is there. Nor did
you provide any of the information for which I asked.

OK I'm prepared to swallow the fact that the emails I received in Outlook
2007 Beta 2 are screwed beyond repair. I accept I am stupid for expecting MS
Outlook 2007 Beta 2 to enable me to, you know, read my emails, and, maybe
even reply to them.

I accept that it appears MS Outlook 2007 Beta 2 was not designed to do that.

So if I uninstall it, do I get my Office 2003 back and the facility to read
my email? Or have I made a big boo boo?

Did you do that? Did it work with just an uninstall?

Sandy,

If you go back to Office/Outlook 2003, you will definitely need to delete
your mail profile. Reboot. Create a new mail profile.

As for the blank message(s), I am unable to duplicate when connecting to a
Microsoft Exchange 2003 (with Service Pack 2) on Windows 2003 (SP1). Just
so you know, Outlook 2007 B2 for me is running in cached mode and I tried
both connection types (RPC over HTTPS and TCP). What Russ really wanted to
know is what type of mail account is giving you an issue (POP3, IMAP,
Exchange) and what is the default delivery location. If it happens to be a
personal folders file (PST), is it the Outlook 97/2002 flavor or the newer
one.

Papaours,
Do you have any security products installed (antivirus, antispam, .etc) that
can scan e-mail? If you do, I always suggest uninstalling these products
and then retrying on a system that is nothing more than Operating System +
Beta product. After all, the point of running a beta product is to find out

Ha ha your funny. And lying through your teeth...

The point of these betas is to have monkeys like me do just that....

It still does not hide the fact that this beta is not operating as it should
on bog standard, fully patched, fully updated, FULLY FUNCTIONAL MS Office
2003 PC's. To me, that is a major faux pas.

MS are really losing it lately. Fortunately I rely on GMAIL these days as a
backup, for true MS supporter and afficionado like me, that is pretty
telling, dont you agree?

Anyway, you suggest I should create a new profile. OK Lets try that...

I don't know of anyone who has been willing to sacrifice a production
version of Outlook by installing a beta over it. Accordingly, that scenario
has not been tested.
The first step to take whenever an in place "upgrade" has been performed is
to create a new Outlook profile from scratch.
Reversion to a previous version is also an untested scenario. Common sense
would suggest uninstalling Office 2007, Office 2003, then trying to
reinstall Office 2003. Hopefully, a reformat will not be required.

Background. My laptop is a prety normal machine fully patched and fully up to
date with XP Pro and otherwise no problems. My version of Office was 2003
which was also fully patched and fully up to date and otherwise functioning
perfectly. i have three email accounts all using bog standard pop3 mailboxes
- which again I never had any problems with.

I installed Office 2007 B2 on my machine. I followed the suggested default
install routines allowing MS to do what hey think they needed to do to my
otherwise normal machine.

So now my Outlook 2007 B2 is reeiving mail but somehow is NOT RENDERING ANY
OF THEM. I CANNOT VIEW ANY EMAILS IN MY INBOX. IN FACT I CANNOT VIEW ANY
EMAILS PERIOD.

On suggestion here I created a new profile and reinstated my pop3 accounts
as before.

Guess what. Outlook 2007 B2 downloaded the whole contents of the relevant
mailboxes but has FAILED TO RENDER EVERY SINGLE ONE OF THEM. I CANNOT VIEW
ANY EMAIL CONTENT WHATSOEVER. When I select and email all I get is white
space....

I have noticed a distinctive 'Report RENDER Problems..' button on the email
viewing pane. Am I to infer from this that MS know about this inability to
'render' the email problem? Am I to infer that they sent out a beta knowing
full well that it could not actually allow people to see their email? Am I to
infer that they are so cynical that would do that to my inbox without A FULL
PRIOR WARNING?

Mmmm, what am I to do now?

I know I will go back instead to using GMAIL, the only email contact I now
have since Office 2007 B2 fried my email so badly it has left it absolutely
useless.

Absolutely Shocking.

FYI, I know about betas, I was one of the first to use Office 2003 Beta,
which worked fine. Lately MS have really dropped their standards. This is
really bad show.

Now I need to figure if it is worth trying to save my hopefully backed up
data or I need to start from scratch.

I had the same problem, and after searching on it found that it is the virus
scanner plug-in module (I use AVG) that is conflicting with Outlook 2007. The
plug-in is not compatible. You just need to go and disable the function in
your virus scanner for scanning e-mail if you want to use Outlook 2007 right
now!! I did and I'm able to receive my complete e-mails. Now my other problem
on the other hand. I'm not able to send e-mails. I get the dreaded "None of
the authentication methods supported by this client are supported by your
server" error. Which by the way is also mentioned in the groups. However I
have not found a solution on that. But then again this is a BETA for us to
use and let them know what works and does not work in the REAL WORLD and not
a controlled enviroment!

I Think that's what I've just done,

I'll retry without th Nod 32 installed but as it was deactivated

at least I've tried fortunatelly with tests accounts

Sandy, I've only uninstalled Outlook 2007 and kept Word and excel to see,
I've reinstalled Outlook 2003 and I have nothing more to do to restore my
mails except those where the content was erased.

Your assumption then is that this beta should be able to function flawlessly
in an upgrade scenario? That scenario has not even been tested yet because
it is not recommended or supported. Did you read all the disclaimers before
you downloaded the beta?
Instead of complaining that your beta software doesn't work, try some
troubleshooting. You should have several good clues to provide. You received
error messages, right? What were they? What are the answers to the rest of
my questions? What other programs do you have running that would affect mail
rendering? Email scanning software, for example, should not be run against a
beta (if at all).

expecting
MS
Outlook 2007 Beta 2 to enable me to, you know, read my emails, and,
maybe
even reply to them.

I accept that it appears MS Outlook 2007 Beta 2 was not designed to do
that.

So if I uninstall it, do I get my Office 2003 back and the facility to
read
my email? Or have I made a big boo boo?

Did you do that? Did it work with just an uninstall?

Errr. OK, I realise this is a Beta. I understand it is a Beta 2.

I know things dont always work as they should and that I should
not
'rely'
on Beta software of any kind.

However, I 'think' I am safe in assuming that Outlook 2007 Beta
2
should
be
able to receive my email and actually SHOW me the content....

I am concerned, I installed it, it runs (sort of OK), it appears
to
do
what
it says it should, BUT, EVERY EMAIL I HAVE RECEIVED IN Outlook
2007
Beta 2
since I installed it IS BROKEN. I CANNOT SEE ANY CONTENT IN ANY
EMAIL
RECEIVED.

They come into my inbox, but if you look at the space below you
will see
how
Outlook renders them....

So I am worried - surely a BETA2 would actually show me the
email!!! I
cannot imagine MS sending this out to folks.....

How do I view my emails?

Hi

OK HUMBLE PIE and lashings of cream please.

David is absolutely correct. My AVG email scanner is the culprit and NOT
Outlook 2007 B2.

My apologies. I was wrong!!

Switched off email scanner and email received renders OK. Ahem. OOPS

Have I grovelled enough yet? Somehow I dont think so. Sorry to those I was
shouting at and sending smelly posts to.

Thanks.

Okay so just to clarify, the empty message bit only happens with new items
coming in or coming in and everything you already received before upgrading?
The reason that I ask is that if it is only isolated to new items coming in,
then I would suspect antivirus first and foremost since I've already seen
one person comment that AVG might be causing this under OL2K7B2. This means
I would also suspect every other product like Norton/Symantec, Trend, .etc
that offer the scanning of e-mail as it is downloaded. Hence my suggestion
to Papa to uninstall said products and try again since it could boil down to
a software conflict.

Now, if it is realy "everything", then the next thing would ask is, are you
using the same PST files you used under Outlook 2003 or did you do data
imports? If it is the later involving import, then it is a matter of
checking to see is the data import where data was stored in a Outlook
97/2002 PST file type and is that being imported into the new PST format
that supports unicode (or vice versa).

Background. My laptop is a prety normal machine fully patched and fully up
to
date with XP Pro and otherwise no problems. My version of Office was 2003
which was also fully patched and fully up to date and otherwise
functioning
perfectly. i have three email accounts all using bog standard pop3
mailboxes
- which again I never had any problems with.

I installed Office 2007 B2 on my machine. I followed the suggested default
install routines allowing MS to do what hey think they needed to do to my
otherwise normal machine.

So now my Outlook 2007 B2 is reeiving mail but somehow is NOT RENDERING
ANY

When I select and email all I get is white
space....

I have noticed a distinctive 'Report RENDER Problems..' button on the
email
viewing pane. Am I to infer from this that MS know about this inability to
'render' the email problem? Am I to infer that they sent out a beta
knowing
full well that it could not actually allow people to see their email? Am I
to
infer that they are so cynical that would do that to my inbox without A
FULL
PRIOR WARNING?

Mmmm, what am I to do now?

I know I will go back instead to using GMAIL, the only email contact I now
have since Office 2007 B2 fried my email so badly it has left it
absolutely

Sandy,

If you go back to Office/Outlook 2003, you will definitely need to delete
your mail profile. Reboot. Create a new mail profile.

As for the blank message(s), I am unable to duplicate when connecting to
a
Microsoft Exchange 2003 (with Service Pack 2) on Windows 2003 (SP1).
Just
so you know, Outlook 2007 B2 for me is running in cached mode and I tried
both connection types (RPC over HTTPS and TCP). What Russ really wanted
to
know is what type of mail account is giving you an issue (POP3, IMAP,
Exchange) and what is the default delivery location. If it happens to be
a
personal folders file (PST), is it the Outlook 97/2002 flavor or the
newer
one.

Papaours,
Do you have any security products installed (antivirus, antispam, .etc)
that
can scan e-mail? If you do, I always suggest uninstalling these products
and then retrying on a system that is nothing more than Operating System
+
Beta product. After all, the point of running a beta product is to find
out
where the break is so it can be reported back to the vendor.

lol Sandy... how about a serving of crow with a side of shoe? then you can

I had similar problem with emails . I could not send and getting the
message about...."authentication methods...." however when I selected
to "log on to incomming mail server before sending mail" (more
settings - outgoing server) all was ok.

Sandy, I am with you on the upgrade though. I upgraded from Outlook Express

Thanks Neo,

I had the same "Blank messages" problem. I disable email screening in AVG
Antivirus and that problem dissappeared.

I did upgrade to Office 2007 from Office 2003 and I have XP SP2, (Dell
Inspiron 8600)

I also had a similar problem (text in the body of e-mails not being
displayed). Attachments were OK and in-line graphics were converted to an
attachment. In addition, messages I SENT arrived at their destination blank!
I did install over a 2002 version, but had to "rebuild" my profiles as I
didn't want to use my "production" profile. One of my profiles uses my
exchange server account at the local college via a POP server. My other
accounts include a POP and HotMail. I also had AVG virus running on the (R&D
only) machine. I disabled it and all seems to be OK. I haven't tried the
HotMail account yet. I wonder if Norton has their e-mail module up to speed?

Thanks for presenting all the problems before I got my 2 cents in the mess.
