Outlook 2007 B2: Messaging interface unknown error

G

Guest

I have been using Outlook 2007 Beta 2 for some time without drama but now for
some reason it won't let me send emails. It comes up with the old "The
messaging interface has returned an unknown error" error but my
tried-and-trusted solution to that problem of running SCANPST.EXE didn't
help. I have tried restarting Outlook and even restarting the machine to no
avail. I have a number of important emails to send so could someone please
try to help me solve this one? Maybe it's going to take reinstalling Office
but I don't want to go down that path if it's possible to avoid it.

Thanks,

KP

Always create a new profile as your first troubleshooting step.

Thanks. I tried that but I still get the same error.

Why don't you just list all the steps you've tried in complete detail
instead of just trickling them in. Was this a new profile with a unique
name?

Also, if you do a quick search of the KB you will find countless causes for
this most unhelpful error message. Find the one that most nearly fits your
situation, realizing that Outlook 2007 is no different than earlier versions
in this regard.

I have now tried:

1. SCANPST.EXE.
2. Restarting Outlook.
3. Restarting the machine.
4. Creating a new profile.
5. Reinstalling Office 2007.

All didn't resolve the problem. I REALLY need to get this working as I have
to send some vital emails. Can anyone help?

Thanks,

Not to add to your troubles, but why are you using a BETA for vital work? Even the Beta 2 Technical Refresh EULA specifically states that you are not authorized to run this in a live environment without a special additional license from Microsoft.

I am using Office 2007 B2TR simply because I like to have the latest versions
of things and I thought it would be safe to use. That may have been a poor
decision but can you offer anything more than basically saying that I am
screwed and that I had it coming? Doesn't anyone care that there is a major
bug in this software? Isn't this the correct forum to report and process
such bugs?

This isn't a major bug. It is a generic error message with countless causes
in all versions of Outlook. You have provided no clues as to what is the
cause in your case. We have provided instructions on how to troubleshoot the
error.

All that has been suggested is that I do a search on the error in the KB and
find something that matches my situation. I have done this and there is only
one likely match with a solution of running SCANPST.EXE. What further info
haven't I provided? Please let me know exactly what info you require and I
will be only too happy to post those details.
