Outlook 2007 and MS Word

O

OneInTen

I upgraded to Outlook 2007 while I still have MS Word 2003 on my computer.
A weird thing is happening. When I load Outlok, MS Word loads too. It
doesn't have toolbars or a sheet, it's just the shell. It happens everytime
I run Outook. If I go to Tasks and terminate the Word process, Outlook
shuts down too.

Any ideas how to solve that?

Thanks

Outlook 2007 uses a cut down version of Word (actually a speciall .dll) and does not use the full Word program (any Word version).

Thanks for the reply.

My assumption is that although it uses the cut down version, I shouldn't be
seeing the Word window next to the Outlook window. Right now I see it on
the screen. Anyway to make it hidden, as it was before?

Thanks

Don;t know - Office 2007/Outlook 2007 are sufficiently new to have issues such as this come up that I have not seen before. I never run mixed versions of Office so I would not have encountered this problem.

I had that issue before with Office 2003 but after a reboot it was alright.

I am having the same issue. I also have both Office 2003 and 2007 on my
computer, but the "phantom" word window only opens when I double-click on an
email to read it and only with the first email I open. Opening subsequent
emails doesn't cause the phantom window to open again.

I find it strange since you are forced to replace Outlook 2003 with Outlook
2007 even if you are installing the rest of Office 2007 alongside Office 2003.

Even though some people say they had this with Office 2003, I didn't. I has
just appeared now with this version.

It would be nice if someone from Microsoft would comment on this.

Yes...that's what I meant. I managed to screw up the name of the
company.
You are hitting a known issue with Matrox graphics cards. The fix for it
is to install the newest version of your graphics card driver. I don't
know whether the Matrox driver with the fix are already out of beta or
not. What I do know though is that everyone who came here before you
with the issue was able to get an updated driver with the fix from
Matrox (sometimes by contacting them).

I think we already tried that, but its possible we couldn't figure out which
driver to use. I'll check with my "hardware" IT guy (I'm software).

| My assumption is that although it uses the cut down version, I
| shouldn't be seeing the Word window next to the Outlook window.
| Right now I see it on the screen. Anyway to make it hidden, as it
| was before?
|
| Thanks

| | Outlook 2007 uses a cut down version of Word (actually a speciall
| .dll) and does not use the full Word program (any Word version).

|| I upgraded to Outlook 2007 while I still have MS Word 2003 on my
|| computer.
|| A weird thing is happening. When I load Outlok, MS Word loads too.
|| It doesn't have toolbars or a sheet, it's just the shell. It happens
|| everytime I run Outook. If I go to Tasks and terminate the Word
|| process, Outlook shuts down too.
||
|| Any ideas how to solve that?
||
|| Thanks
