As far as I can tell, no fix is needed. Outlook 2003 seems to work fine on
Windows 7.

It doesn't work on my Windows 7 too. The errormessage I got was something
like (sorry I have to try to translate it from Dutch to English)

"Can't open your standard emailfiles. An unexpected error occurred. MAPI
wasn't able to load the informationservice msncon.dll. Check to see if the
service was installed and configured properly."

Dutch message exact:
"Kan Uw standaardmappen voor email niet openen. Er is een onverwachte fout
opgetreden. De informatieservice msncon.dll is niet door MAPI geladen.
Controleer of de service goed is geinstalleerd en geconfigureerd."

Possibly an issue with Outlook Connector
see outlook connector issues;

Dear DL,

Thanks for reminding me my stupid action with Outlook Connector. This is
what happened before: while Outlook 2003 was configuring for the first time
(Welcome-mail and all) I tried to install Outlook Connector. Sorry I didn't
mention my silly action.

I uninstalled first Outlook Connector. But Outlook 2003 still gave the same
errormessage, even after uninstall and install of Outlook 2003 itself. That
was the point I posted my mail in this discussiongroup.

I've looked at your recommendation. But I decided to try something else
first. I wanted to see is Windows 7 could clean up my improper way of
working. So I got back to the restorepoint before I installed Outlook. And
installed Outlook 2003 and later Outlook Connector. But this time with more
patience. That did the job.

It's working very well. So in my opinion there's no patch needed.

Hope someone else can learn from this.

Greeting LexP

Did you install it using an administrator account?

I just installed Windows 7, and after reinstalling Office 2003 (I had to
format the hard drive) finally got Outlook to work. However, there are two
"changes" which I want to "unchange." One is that when I compose an email and
press the Send button, it immediately is sent rather than being put in the
Outbox and waiting on me to press Send/Receive. That is what I want - to wait
until I press the Send/Receive button. How do I get it to do that? The second
is that when I go to Contacts, rather than showing the deep blue color in the
first name, it puts a border around the first entry, which prevents me from
just pressing a letter to go to that part of the alphabet in the contact
list. How do I get it to show the deep blue on the first name?

Since you started your own thread on this, I answered there.

I have just installed the Win7 Home Premium 64bit version but I cannot get Outlook 2003 to work. Every time I start Outlook I get the error message that the program encountered an error an is looking for a solution.

I have tried to start Outlook with WinXP compatibility and as admin without success.

"NonTechie" and "lexp" seem to have gotten it to work. How?

I have no idea what is meant by "Outlook Connector" and how to recreate "lexp"s workaround.

I've spent the money on Office 2007 before realizing that the Student and Teacher edition has no outlook.

Thunderbird would be an alternative, but I would have to be able to import the .pst file to import all the old mails, contacts and appointments.

I appreciate some able to explain a workaround in layman's terms as I am more a user than someone well versed with the inner workings of that technical wonder sending my mails.

Best regards...
