In sending a recent e mail, I hit an unknown character and now all replies
and new e mails have a symbol that looks like a new paragraph symbol when I
type. It also shows dots between words and end of sentences. It doesn't
appear in the recipients e mail, but is very distracting when I'm sending
one. Can anyone tell me what I hit and how to get rid of it? I have Outlook
2003.

its not doin any thing as i am suffering with the same problem

You mean the ¶ symbols? Ctrl+Alt+8, as Diane explained below.
